The cornerstone of the firm’s practice is litigation. Our attorneys have tried a wide variety of cases, ranging from highly complex environmental litigation matters and class-action suits to business disputes and employment discrimination cases. This litigation practice also includes the representation of professionals in malpractice actions and in licensing matters before state disciplinary boards.

PROFESSIONAL NEGLIGENCE PRACTICE
The founding members of the firm enjoy over 48 years of combined experience in the defense of professional negligence claims embracing a wide range of professional clients, including physicians, dentists, psychologists, pharmacists, chiropractors, podiatrists, skilled nursing facilities and attorneys. Another area of increasing emphasis continues to be administrative law, specifically the defense of professionals in licensing and disciplinary matters before the State’s quality assurance commissions. The firm regularly provides counsel on legal issues related to professional practice, including risk management seminars, in-service presentations and individual issue management.

PRODUCTS LIABILITY
The defense of manufacturers, distributors and retailers has been a significant part of our attorneys’ practice and background. They have had significant experience in the asbestos litigation as well as litigation of claims arising out of alleged product design and manufacture defects.

RETAIL PRACTICE
A significant component of the firm’s practice includes the defense of large retail chains in a broad array of civil litigation ranging from premises liability to employment-related claims. Consistent with the firm’s commitment to full and efficient service, the firm’s services have also included advice to clients relating to loss control and prevention issues, including assistance with the promulgation of protocols and presentation of seminars on critical loss prevention issues.

INSURANCE PRACTICE
An enduring element of the firm’s practice continues to be the direct representation of insurance carriers in insurance coverage matters. The scope of our services in this area has been wide ranging, including advice on insurance coverage issues, the prosecution of declaratory judgment actions and the defense of bad faith litigation. Our services have included handling both first and third party insurance issues, including examinations under oath in first party claims. Moreover, a significant component of this practice sector includes complex litigation regarding pollution and construction defect claims.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE
The members of the firm have extensive experience litigating a variety of environmental claims. This includes the defense of land owners, manufacturers and transporters in matters dealing with both state and federal law. Land use, hazardous waste, superfund site and toxic tort claims have all been handled for our clients.

APPELLATE PRACTICE
A rapidly developing and increasingly active component of the firm’s practice involves civil and administrative appeals. We may be called upon to appeal an adverse result, to defend a favorable result from the trial court, or to serve as new counsel for the appeals process. Our experience includes civil appeals in the Washington State Court of Appeals and the Washington Supreme Court, as well as administrative appeals in the Superior Courts of state licensing actions and other administrative proceedings.
